Text Box: July 2—Solar Cooking 101   (*12:30-1:45)     Have you ever cooked food using the sun’s energy?  We will experiment with a ‘solar box oven’ to make our lunch.  I bet you’ll be surprised at the results!  The students will all make a solar pizza box oven to take home. July 9—Survival 101 Come have fun learning to lay trail signs, use a compass, and make a hut in the woods.  We’ll learn what you could put in a ‘survival pack’ and what you should do if you ever get lost in the woods. Note: Please wear long pants, shoes and socks. July 16—Gardening 101   Plant a seed to take home in a special viewing box so that you can watch the roots grow.  We will also plant flowers in the butterfly garden and learn all about how seeds grow. July 23—Birding 101   Examine feathers, eggs, and nests and meet one of our parrots.  Learn to identify birds in our meadow and make a special bird feeder to take home. Aug 6—Micro Habitats 101   We’ll learn about some organisms that you might find under a log and then we’ll go outside to see what we can find.  Everyone will put together a small terrarium. Note: Please wear long pants, shoes and socks. Aug 13—Nature Journaling 101   Students start this class by making their own unique nature journal.  Then we will look at the shapes of some of the plants and animals at Paws and see if we can get some animals to pose for us while we draw them.
